message from

& Founder

Nelson Mandela said, “It is in your hands, to make a better world for all who live in it.” This has served as my inspiration. In 2011, as a teenage activist in my first year of high school, I witnessed the pervasive nature of sexual and gender-based violence in the conflict-affected regions of Garissa County, Kenya. This experience inspired me to take action by igniting a fire within me. As a survivor of gender-based violence, ....

“To every woman: You are a saviour, not someone who surrenders, and I believe, there is a voice in you so plausible.

TAWI-AFRICA
Thematic Areas

women's rights and gender equality

This encompasses championing equal rights and opportunities for women and girls across all facets of society, while simultaneously challenging entrenched discriminatory practices and social norms. A critical aspect of this advocacy is the push for increased representation of women in leadership roles and their participation in decision-making processes at every level, ensuring that their voices are not just heard but are influential in shaping policies and governance.

Education and literacy programs

This Program is pivotal in bridging the gender divide, addressing the persistent barriers that women and girls face in accessing education. By promoting literacy and ensuring that women and girls have access to quality education, we lay the foundation for empowered individuals who can navigate life with knowledge and critical skills. Educational initiatives are thus tailored not only to provide basic literacy but also to equip women and girls with the necessary tools to thrive in a competitive world, thereby fostering their autonomy and long-term success.

Women Economic Empowerment

By promoting financial independence and entrepreneurship, we are enabling women to secure economic opportunities and contribute significantly to the economic health of their communities. This empowerment comes through offering resources, training, and support that encourage women to embark on economic initiatives and business ventures. When women are economically empowered, the benefits ripple through families and societies, contributing to the overall reduction of poverty and enhancement of societal well-being.

Girl Child Rights

TAWI is dedicated to advocating and protecting the rights of the girl child. It works to eliminate harmful practices such as forced child marriage, female genital mutilation, gender-based violence and promote Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights(SRHR). The organization focuses on promoting girls' access to healthcare, and protection from all forms of abuse. Through awareness campaigns, community engagement, and policy advocacy, the Organization aims to create an environment where girls can grow and thrive with equal rights and opportunities.

Peace Advocacy and Gender Perspective in Peace:

Peace Advocacy and Gender Perspective in Peace are crucial in recognizing and addressing the unique impacts of conflict and insecurity on women and girls. This involves advocating for the inclusion of women in peacebuilding processes and ensuring that their perspectives are integral to conflict resolution and post-conflict reconstruction efforts. It also entails supporting initiatives that tackle the root causes of conflict, violence, and insecurity through a gender-sensitive lens, with the goal of fostering peaceful and inclusive communities.

Our programs;

The camp is a unique experiential learning initiative that combines elements of environmental education, economic empowerment, and sustainable investments. Taking place over three days on a farm setting. The camp offers participants a transformative experience that emphasizes the importance of ecological stewardship and financial independence.

The program fosters meaningful connections between primary and secondary schools, creating clubs that foster peer mentorship and support among students. Targeting 20 students each in 15 schools, it aims to benefit 300 students in Garissa county. The initiative aims to establish a sisterhood circle specifically designed to empower and uplift girls within the school community.

The Program is a heartfelt initiative aimed at fostering meaningful conversations and connections between mothers and daughters in the areas of Mathengeni, Bula Garowe and Dairy in Garissa Town, and Kasha Town in Balambala Subcounty. Specifically designed to address issues related to early child pregnancies and sexual reproductive health, this program serves as a platform to break the silence on taboos, provide insights on reproductive rights, and empower young girls with knowledge and support.

The Sanitary Drive and Menstrual Health Training program is a comprehensive initiative that addresses critical issues surrounding menstrual hygiene and health in underserved communities. This program not only focuses on distributing sanitary products but also emphasizes education, awareness, and empowerment.

The program aims to break the stigma surrounding menstruation, empower girls to take control of their health, and promote gender equality. Furthermore, the program advocates for sustainable solutions, such as waste management practices, to promote environmental conservation.
